Glorious Goodwood

When my Hb and I went to the Coronation Festival (if you missed that post you can read all about it here) we sampled a new variety of Gordon's Gin which has been made using cucumber. Now I am a huge cucumber fan and have it with marmite in one of my rolls which I take to work for my packet lunch. Now I know at this point I will have lost some of you as you either love or loath marmite ;0)
Whilst chatting to the lady holding the samples she asked us if we enjoyed horse racing. Now I had to confess I have never been and she offered us guest tickets to Ladies Day at Goodwood races.
Glorious Goodwood is a big event here in the UK and Ladies Day took place last Thursday. Luckily I don't work Thursday but my Hb took a day's leave and off we went, dressed in our glad rags,

It happened to be the hottest day of the year as well, the sun shone from dawn to dusk. We had tickets to the Gordon's enclosure and there are no guesses as to the tipple sold there.

Now I confess my favourite gin is Bombay Sapphire but this is a really delicious variation on Gordon's Classic gin. Everyone was dressed in their finery.
Goodwood is the most beautiful race track set in the glorious West Sussex countryside.
We saw several races and one of my horses came in 3rd so I had put on a bet "both ways" (see I can even speak the language now) I got my money back. It was so exhillerating seeing the horses thundering by with everyone cheering them on.

It is also fun to have a wander around and see the horse paraded in the paddocks before they race.

and get an ice cream to cool yourself down, we had a delicious strawberry and cream flavour.

We had an amazing, if scorching hot (it was 34c that day) time and I snapped these great posters on the way out.

As we were so near to our daughter's house we were even able to take them out to dinner that evening. A real bonus to the end of a superb day. She is now 26 weeks pregnant and positively blooming.

So my card for today...it has to be something which epitomises everything to do with the English Countryside....yes strawberries.
I made this one for a commission and it is sold but if you want something similar there is another in my Etsy shop here

I used my Magnolia Ink Tilda strawberry yummy stamp which I coloured with my Promarkers and highlighted with Prismacolor pencils.

Here she is in close up, you can see I added Glossy Accents to her strawberries to make them look more delicious.I made another of my Card Candi flowers and added a couple of Lili of the valley tags. Have you spotted my bird cage charm..they are great fun. I added some MS punched butterflies and there is a Cheery Lynn tropical florish in white providing a stem for my flower. A few gems finish off my card.

  31. It looks like a wonderful day out Jane, you are a lucky lady! On the gin front, not sure if you've ever come across it but Heston (as in Blumenthal) made cucumber gin in one of his books, I only know this as my sister made some for me for my birthday a couple of years ago - it was great and apparently very easy to make. Bet there's the recipe on-line somewhere......Mind you, if you can just buy it now, it's probably not worth making.
