August brings the sheaths of corn

There is a very slight nip in the air in the mornings heralding the feeling that summer is starting to come to a close. However during the days we are still having beautiful warm sunshine.

The new varieties of begonia I bought are still flourishing and providing gorgeous shades of yellow in my hanging basket.
My gazania shine out..such sunny flowers.

I even caught a busy bee at work
I used these colours as the inspiration for the August page I made for my art journal using the words from the Months Poem by Sara Coleridge.

August brings the sheaths of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

I chose several yellow and orange distress inks and made an inky background, just roughly blending some of the lighter colours.
I added  some leaf stencilling and some rays of sunshine.

I choose an assortment of stamps to choose from.

I needed to add a tractor to my page and as I have no tractor stamps at all I improvised.
I stamped the vintage Tim Holtz car.
and die cut some cogs...you will see how I made these into a tractor all is revealed in my final photo
I stamped my Paper Artsy girl as my focal to represent my "Harvest home"
I die cut some foliage and arranged it so that she was hiding in the field. I then masked her off adding a small edge to give her a halo effect.
I then added some brown spray inks and a touch of gold liquid acrylic ink to finish off.

 Here is my finished page.
A few close  ups...first my tractor...well I think it just passes as one 😉
and my harvest home
this is such a great stamp...my harvest home is peeping out from my field of corn.
My page was made for the following challenges

Arise Pegasus

Good morning another week is here and it is time for my dose of  inspiration for Visible Image.
For today's project I used my Do you believe in Unicorns set
I started to  make a Distress Oxide background for the unicorn. However as made the background I made me think of the age of the universe. I stamped the moon using Faded Jeans  Distress Oxide ink. As I looked at the moon in the sky for some reason Pegasus, the ancient mythical winged horse, came to mind.
Now the unicorn in this set has a horn and no wings but Visible Image also made this wonderful set
...........which does has a fab set of wings.
So to bring Pegasus alive I masked off the unicorn's horn before I stamped and white embossed it onto my inky background.
I stamped and gold embossed the wings onto black card and fussy cut them out.
I also used the birds from the learn to fly again.
I played with the position of the wings until I was happy with them and then put on my creative hat to put my card together......my unicorn underwent a metamorphosis.....

arise Pegasus 😁

You will see that I also stamped the cloud stamps over the moon and used the sentiment from the Angels are near set. I added some gold glitter to his hooves to speed him on his journey....

I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;

Penny Black and More 1/3 all creatures great and small
Not just cards 1/3  anything goes
Fashionable stamping 1/3 use your inks anyway you like
Cute card Thursday 2 /3 embossing Pegasus and the birds, clouds and wings are all heat embossed
The Artistic stamper 3/3 anything goes
Emerald Creek Dares 1/3 anything goes
Stamping sensations 2/3 anything goes
Craft Stamper take it make it  2/3 August anything goes

Thanks for stopping by today and for the kind comments you take the time to leave me. Enjoy a creative week ahead. The sun returned this weekend...bliss. We spent Saturday by the seaside with the children and on Sunday I was able to sit and plan some upcoming design work in my garden.

Sweet peas and my giveaway winner

After the all day rain and eternal night we endured yesterday it is hard to remember that it is still summer. However my garden certainly remembers and I still have so many lovely blooms out there. If you remember from this post I planted some sweet peas earlier this year. Today the sunshine is back thank goodness and my washing is blowing on the line.

My sweet peas have bloomed beautifully and their scent is just delicious. One sniff takes me back to my childhood and the sweet peas my darling granddad , who we lived with, grew in the garden. Such power to evoke such sweet memories.
These are mine in flower.
I am able to cut them most days and put them into the dear little vases my BF also included in my birthday present she gave me in April.
I take them down to my studio
and their sweet perfume drifts around me as I craft.....mmmm just bliss.

So my card just had to feature the sweetest Lili of the Valley sweet pea image I recently bought from their Simply Print pre-coloured  range. I made a very CAS card for Dotty's Teahouse where it has gone down to sell. The stamped sentiment is a Clearly Besotted favourite of mine.
I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;

Happy little stampers 1/3 anything goes with dies
Simon says stamp Monday happy birthday
Craft Heaven 1/3 anything goes
Noor UK anything goes
C.R.A.F.T challenge 1/3 anything goes
Cute card Thursday 1/3 embossing my sentiment is heat embossed.
As you like it 1/3 favourite embellishment and why I have lots but sequins are one  and I use them on most of the cards I sell in Dotty's Teahouse. They don't add bulk to the cards which increase posting costs so it's win win!

My giveaway closed yesterday at 4pm and out came the hat....all the names were put inside. You had extra entries as I promised,  for those who were followers and promoted my giveaway......we gave it a really good stir

and my darling Hb drew the winner who is .....

drum roll...............

of  Card and cake.   Carole please could you email me, my address is on my sidebar and I will arrange for your choice of  prize to be sent to you.

I really wish I could offer everyone of you a prize but it was lovely to see Carole's name pop out of the hat as she is an avid reader of Jane' Journal. Thank you to everyone who left such kind comments on my bloggerversary post..it really has been 7 years of blogging friendship. Here's to many more years of creativity and fun ahead to share with you all.

My Portugal holiday journal

Today I can finally share my completed holiday journal from our recent adventures in Portugal. This was a real labour of love but holiday journals are so worthwhile. There is nothing better than looking back through them and revisiting awesome memories.
If you have not seen any of my holiday posts you can see them here and here
This was the view from our balcony
and here is a collage of my finished holiday journal.

I made most of the cover sitting on the balcony.

Today is also my weekly inspiration post for Visible Image and you will see that every single stamp I used in my journal is by Visible Image.  I used lots of their sets by predominantly these sets, which are perfect for holiday journalling.
Capture the moment
I thought I would share a process of another of the inside pages..if you missed my earlier page which I shared you can find it here
This page was for our day out in Lisbon. Each day we took some  Instax photos, as well as using my usual camera.  These photos measure approx 8.5 by 5.5cm. I use the colours in my photos to inspire each page.

I first made a background using stamps from Mesh-ellaneus. These are such cool stamps.
They work perfectly with Distress oxides
I had fun playing with a background pattern.
I just had to use the camera ( I know it isn't an Instax but it's retro enough for me) which I stamped, embossed and fussy cut out

I stamped and fussy cut out some of the paper boats...
I then put on my creative hat and put together my page
Here are a few close ups.
Don't you just love the paper boats...I do 😊

Before I go I would just share a few more details of just how perfect Visible Image stamps are for creating backgrounds for journalling ;all these pages had photos added to them but here are some before I embellished them.
An orange mesh-allaneus
the ink splats created the brown splats below. I used a stencil for the clocks but the script and smile are also stamps from these sets I shared links to.
and words from the Capture the moment and Destination unknown sets.
So there we are...a real labour of love but so worth doing...there are a lifetime of memories inside my journal.
I really hope that I might have inspired you to create your own holiday journal.

You will be able to

"Capture the moment and make it last forever"
