More of the white stuff

Now I bet that made you think that I meant snow....well I didn't..this is a bit of a random Countdown to Christmas post with just 9 days to go now.  Today I want to talk about the other white stuff aka milk.....yes...milk. Now I know that most people buy their's in the supermarket but I am one of only a few houses in my road who still have a regular milk delivery from a real milkman driving a real milk float. I really feel that in this age of "greenness and recycling" you cannot compete with having milk delivered. The milk float is battery powered and the bottles get returned after use and I help keep someone in employment. How efficient is that? I know it is more expensive but I can totally rely on my delivery.

Whether we are having a heat wave, snowed in or pouring with rain our milkman, Mo, has never let us down. He comes on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, leaving us 2 pints and I knew it was nearly Christmas when these appeared on my doorstep this week.

Now to the untrained eye I know this just looks like 2 very ordinary pints of milk. Well I will let you into a secret they are not. No, these are special Christmas pints of milk. Yes seriously....just take a look at this..

yes the holly berry special foils caps are back! Yay, we're nearly there! I have seen these special foils over the years and they still make me smile. Last year though we did not have them and I thought that perhaps due to cost etc they were stopped. I was so pleased to see them back this week. They will decorate my bottles of milk right up until Christmas Day. When I open my fridge they smile at me. (Yes I do know I am a big kid but little things are the best).

Now Mo our Milkman also leaves us a Christmas card and this year's one arrived yesterday together with our 2 pints. For the first time the milk company have actually printed their own cards for the milkmen to leave. I just love this sweet card.

How cute is that image ;0)

and this is the inside. I know everyone must think I'm mad but little things like this just add to all the festive cheer at this time of the year.

I spent most of yesterday wrapping all my Christmas parcels. I just have tags to write. Something else exciting has also occurred this morning......

Yes my pressies from my Hb have appeared under the tree.
I just adore The Snowman. It is one of my favourite Christmas cartoons  and has very fond memories for my Hb and me and our first Christmas in first home (many, many years ago ;0) I am now humming "I'm walking in the air" whenever I catch sight of them.

Edit; my blogging friend Helen mentioned in her comment that there is a new Snowman out this year. Now I had to check this out and actually I am delighted as it looks really super. It is called The Snowman and the Snowdog. Check out the link here. It appears that a new little snowdog is featured with mis matched sock ears and a satsuma for a nose. It is debuting on Channel 4 on Christmas day. I shall set up my Humax ;0)

There may be some for presents for Billy coming soon but he has decided that he should not peep and spoil any surprises...

So my challenge card today is going to be a Snowman one.

This is one jolly snowman in very non traditional colours.

I  think this could be a Snowlady as she is wearing pink ;0) I have made a couple of cards in this colourway as I have 2 very pink friends!
I used the great Scrabble pieces I have used before.
I added plenty of Christmas bling to make a very happy card. I do love the Christmas tree die cuts and pink snowflake.

 I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;
ABC Card Challenges D for Deck the halls
Raise the Bar Let it snow #124

Today is such a gorgeous sunny day and much warmer. I have even put my washing out in the garden. I have also made a Christmas clove orange today...I have not made one of these since I was a kid. I will be back soon with a little tut for it as it smells delicious and it is so simple to make.
Tomorrow I am meeting my darling daughter in Guildford as she has a day off between her shifts. We will be having a long lunch and girlie catch up, I can't wait.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Take time, despite the rush at this time of the year, to enjoy some simple things that make you smile.  There are plenty out there...one of mine was on the door step!

Back soon,

Bye for now,

Jane x

  3. I know just what you mean, I remember those christmassy milk bottle tops when I was little - just made everything seem just a little bit more exciting and special!

I love the Snowman as well, Im not sure if I will watch the new version though - I love the original, still get a lump in my throat at the end. I have a copy of the soundtrack too, so lovely and evocative of the season.

  19. Hi Jane,

It's nice to know the traditional milkman is not quite extinct yet. It's many years since we had one and even then it was only three times a week because we live so far out in the sticks.

Another fabulous post packed with interest and of course a great Christmas card.

It's great to see you at Penny Black and More challenge this month, thanks for joining in.
