The Elf on the Shelf design is based on the 1960s Christmas tree ones and I am lucky enough to own my own Nan's one, which hangs proudly on Old Choc each year. It's in brilliant condition considering it is over 50 years old.
I used to love seeing this hang on her tinsel 1960s tree...yes very "of its time"..😂 For me real trees have always ruled to roost. My Nan lived in a tiny flat so I think that's why she chose to have an artificial tree and anyway in the 60s kitsch was everything.
My daughter bought Daisy a boy and girl elf and I found some fun chipboard elf furniture on the internet which I decided to paint as a pressie. I bought a bed and a chair and they arrived flat packed and unpainted.
Out came my DecoArt media paints and I painted them to make them look wooden using lots of layers and brush strokes.
Here is the rocking chair
and this is the bed. I added a painted wooden stocking with ribbon.
All ready for the elves.
On 1st December this is what Daisy found on the kitchen side when she woke up
with a sweet note from Santa
and this is the mischief they got up to on day 2 ....such fun and Daisy is loving them.
She is coming to stay on Friday and Nanna has a few elf ideas for here ....;0)

ReplyDeleteOh my how exciting are the elves, I'm sure they were very happy to move in with Daisy...just look at their lovely bed and bedding!!! I see they found the wine ok. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember having one on our tree when I was little, his knees tucked up inside his arms, I wonder where he went to!
I love the little fairy's stocking too.
Enjoy the rest of your week my friend,
V x

Beautiful Christmas Card!
ReplyDeleteI gave my daughter the Elf on the Shelf book and Elf when her kids were very small - maybe even 16 years ago. All I know is that every year they put the Elf someplace different in their house on Christmas Eve. What fun.

ReplyDeleteDear Jane,
ReplyDeleteThese elves are new to me, but what a wonderful idea! I think I need to "steal" the idea and use some other figure to hide&seek for the last weeks of countdowning. Thank you so so much for sharing! And those furniture you put together... too cute!
Happy December days, happy countdowning!
Yours,
Mia

Thank you so much for joining in with our challenge this week at Rhedd's Creative Spirit..x
What a beautiful card Jane. That image is so magical and I love how you made a glowing moon around her! I've never heard of this 'elf on the shelf' tradition before, but it sure sounds like a fun thing to do when you have kids or grandkids. Daisy must run around like crazy every morning to see what mischief they got into!! How fun!! Love the bed and chair, all things miniature are such fun! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun, Jane. The furniture looks amazing and all the cute elves. They are so sweet. Thank you so much for joining us at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Hugs, Sandra
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful Jane! I am jealous, lucky girl getting them and they are sensational too x
ReplyDeleteJane, this furniture set is adorable! What a lovely little tradition to start with Daisy! I bet she is so excited to get up every day to see what mischief they have been up to! Your card is indeed magical; I love that fairy dust!
ReplyDeleteEOS is quite popular here, and we have 'played' our own version of it for years with a soap carved into the shape of an gnome my first boyfriend's mother gave me over 30 years ago! Somehow it ended up getting a little frisky last year, and the gnome got chipped. Sadface. Too, as a side note, I just picked up a bag full of those sweet little sixties elf ornaments as well as 3 older shelf sitters at an estate sale. I can't wait to put them on my tree!
I want to thank you for entering your elf furniture into our Winter Wishes challenge at Emerald Creek Dares, but I don't see why they both can't be considered as an entry! Love them both! Hugs! Sara Emily DT
lol you really have made the elves this year so very welcome - fabulous. Thank you for sharing with us over at Rhedd's Creative Spirit this month and hope to see you again in future challenges.

ReplyDeleteHi Jane, I'm sure Daisy loves spotting that elf every morning. We always had an elf on our Christmas tree. (here in America) But my parents did not have "an elf on the shelf". I think, it's a bit newer tradition. Beautiful fairy card. See you here and on IG.

ReplyDeleteHi Jane. The furniture has worked really well, it looks fab. Elf on the shelf arrived here a bit late for my two, but I always enjoy the 'situations they end up in on my friends FB photos. I have no doubt you'll have some great inventive ideas and Daisy will love every minute!
