to Ascot or should I say Amazing Ascot.
It was so different to Goodwood but they are both superb venues in their own right. The difference with Ascot....was the sheer size of the Grandstand....the new stand is incredible and so vast.Once you get inside it is more like an international hotel!
As we had premier tickets we were lucky enough to be able to choose several levels to see the racing from. It was a lovely sunny afternoon (not as hot as Goodwood thank goodness) and we saw some of the races from the balcony
and some down at turf level, we were right at the finishing line so the roar from the crowd was so exciting.
There were 6 races that day and I chose a winner, a second place and a third place, not bad for a novice like me. It was lovely to see the horses paraded first in the show ring before they were taken down to the start.
It was such a fun afternoon, plenty of Pimms was consumed of course and we finished the day off with a lovely meal with our friends. I have so enjoyed going to the races that we have actually decided to return to Goodwood in October for the final race meet. I need to start studying the horses' form and see if I can pick some more winners ;0)
So my card for today was inspired by the blue sky, clouds and rich green grass of our day at the races. It is a card I have made for my Dad's birthday next month. I had fun making my own backing paper with Tim Holtz distress inks and then embossing using my Pretty Vintage LOTV background stamps. I also wanted to enter the Country View crafts challenge where they have asked us to use a quotation of saying and show where it came from . I really love this birthday quote as it is such a positive one,
Here is my card
This quote is attributed to the singer Sammy Hagar who was also known as the Red Rocker. He is most famous for being the lead singer of Van Halen until 1996. This quote is one of the "Quotables" stamps by Lili of the valley. You will see I have been ripping up more pages of a tale of 2 cities which I inked up and then stamped on and embossed in clear black.
Here it is in close up. You will see that I was even inspired to add champagne die cuts (the champagne really flows at Ascot). The clouds feature as does the races shown by the clocks. I had great fun with this card. The peg die is one of my most recent winnings and I thought it gave a bit of a surreal edge to my card.
I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;
