I really loved the collage design and process Tim used and I thought it was a perfect way to use up scraps of paper. I don't have any red felt and I don't tend to stitch on my cards with a machine so I thought I would find another way of making a textured feature heart. I also wanted to include some lace. I actually have that word banner and I decided that rather than a valentine card (which I have already made for my Hb) I would make an anniversary card instead.
I got out my scraps box and had a rummage around.
and I chose these pieces from it.
To make the collage I played around with placement of the strips. I also used a couple of TH word tickets.
Once I was happy with the pattern I glued them down and then cut them straight. I then added a top sealer coat of glue and distressed the edges.
Now it was time to get messy. Tim uses Picket fence DP to add a shabby chic/vintage look. I don't have that colour so I just used a white Ranger acrylic paint dabber. I smeared paint over the sealed papers and let it dry. I then added another coat of glue (I used Mod Podge) which really gives a great bonded feel to the papers. I let this all dry and over night pressed it flat under a weight.
Next it was time to outline the scraps. Tim uses a dark Distress pen but I wanted something less heavy and chose Fired Brick instead.
After this my collage backing paper was ready to embellish.
I decided to make a big red textured heart using Distress Glitter. I cut out a Cheery Lynn heart and added Glossy accents
and then the Distress Glitter
I then got together various components and had a play with my design.
And this is what I came up with.
Here are a few close ups...
This crunchy rich red distress glitter heart, which I wrapped in Baker's Twine
Some of the details I added including charms, metalic corners, lace and brads;
and even a button which I tied with twine.
I finished off with some chit chat remnant rubs and butterflies.
I loved the idea of a collage backing paper, it is thick and flexible, so decided to make a second piece at the same time
but what the "wish" piece turns into you will have to wait and see ;0)

Although we have had some fleeting snow in the south over the last few days I was able to get to my workshop on Saturday. I had a super inky time with Brenda making a memories folio. I need to finish off my project and add some of my own details and then I will be able to share it here.
Thanks for all your sweet visits and comments you take the time to leave me. Keep warm and carry on crafting. I'm off with my Hb to do the Cha Cha Cha at dancing tonight ;0) x
Back soon,
Bye for now,
Jane x
Good afternoon, Jane! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your collage background and will definitely be doing this with some of the endless paper scraps that I have - sealing the finished result with a layer of glue seems to bond the papers together better and makes it look like a single piece of paper...awesome! You got lots of lovely texture with your metal accents and glittery heart...I so want to play but need to get all my samples finished for the weekend so hubby can start with production of my next disc and to top it all, I have now got little man's cold and feel rotten! :( Hope the snow stays away, I need a glint of Spring now! Hugs, Lisa x
ReplyDeletePS Enjoy your dancing! xx
