Listening to the sea

On Tuesday I met up with my darling daughter and Daisy for ladies' lunch. My daughter bought me gift vouchers for Mother's day for the 10th Hole in Portsmouth. This was our opportunity to use them before the schools are out for summer and things get busy in Portsmouth. I have shown you some photos last year of this super cafe but just as a reminder here it is.

Their home made cakes are legendary. After lunch we went for a stroll to let Daisy have a sleep in her buggy. We walked along the coastal path. It was a lovely day, breezy but warm and the sea looked so pretty. I do love it when the waves buffer about and there is frothy swirl on the waves. We strolled and chatted as Daisy obligingly snoozed in her buggy.
Here are some snaps I took.

I decided to make some art journal pages of our day out for Jane's Journal.
There are some fun challenges around so I combined several in my creation.
I wanted plenty of texture for the sea, just as we had seen it so I started with some strips of left over paper from my travel journal.

Next I added some blue distress inks. I kept some white areas for the swirl I saw. I tore the edge of a piece of  paper and inked over the top to give the impression of the waves swirling

I needed a sentiment and as I thought about my walk and chat with my darling daughter I thought "Listen to the waves" would fit perfectly. However I don't have a stamp saying that. I also wanted to do some more doodling and lettering as inspired by Joanne Fink. So I decided to add my sentiment by hand and built up the layers carefully until I was happy with it. I added some bubbles stencilling and then my Design by Rynn bubble stamps. This is my initial lettering setting out.

I also added some of my fab Rubber dance sea stamps I recently won and made my "shingle beach" by blending some yellow DIs and then adding scattered straw DI through my dutch doobadoo stencil for texture.

I then made the brave (or should I say mad) decision to add some doodling around my pages. There is no going back once you have braved putting the pen to paper!

So here are my finished pages....
and some close ups
lots of swirly doodles and little accents of white like the waves.

These pages in Jane's Journal are a great memory of a special walk and chat with my darling daughter......as we listened to the waves.....

I would like to enter my AJ pages into the following great challenges;

Daisy obligingly woke up in time for us to return to the 10th hole for tea and cake before I drove home and my daughter and I shared this piece of cake....mmmm clotted cream sponge and strawberries..

It looks like the weather is holding out for the Wimbledon final today but perhaps we may get some rain on Sunday...I shall be glued to the TV for these matches.  I am sure strawberries will be featuring there too.  I also hope to get some gardening done and some crafting in my studio...bliss.

Enjoy the weekend and remember that I have no less than 2 guest design posts coming up first thing on Monday...my 2nd for Noor! and for Country View my finished travel journal -  which has taken me a month to complete!

Thanks for your kind visits and comments,

Back soon,

Bye for now,

Jane x

The waves look so real, I can almost hear them lapping up against the rocks! My Mom and I spent a little time down at the pool while she was here and I had forgotten how much I enjoy the water! Your seahorse family is so sweet, what a fancy die cut that is! A gorgeous scene, just love every bit of it!
