A Visible Image bookmark for those difficult times

 Hi everyone, and welcome to my latest design team make for Visible Image. The theme for our makes this week is "with sympathy" and my brief was to make something "non card". I am sure like me you find it very difficult to make things for such a sad time and I must admit I usually make a card. However a brief is a brief so I put on my thinking cap and decided that a bookmark might be another way of expressing your empathy to someone who is bereaved. You could write some words on the back and it could be kept in a book with memories or even a religious book if they have a faith.

This is what I made

The stamp set I used is a very special one called

Forever in your heart

which has a very useful coordinating die

This is how I made it;

I made a blue distress ink background using tumbled glass, stormy sky and salty ocean. (Just press these inks on a kraft sheet add a mist of water and dip in your card. If you dry between the layers you will get  lots of depth).

I cut it down to a "bookmark" size. You can choose any size you like. Mine is 5.5cm x 21cm. I then stamped the "thinking of your" sentiment from the set in summer breeze blue Versafine clair ink and clear embossed it.

I then added stamped using the hearts randomly onto the background and coloured some of them in with silver glitter pen.

The feather was stamped onto 150gsm heat stable vellum using Versamark embossing ink and heat embossed using white sparkle embossing powder. I then die cut it out using the coordinating die. Stamping onto vellum creates a more lifelike feather.

I adhered the vellum to the bookmark using Glossy accents. I just added some along the "spine" of the feather as I wanted it to be as realistic as possible not just be glued flat. I actually looked up the correct term for the spine as I didn't know..it's called the rachis.. now there is a new word for the day!

Here is my finished bookmark

with a few close ups

and 1 final photo.

It is often hard to know what to give when a person is grieving. Perhaps even buying a book and putting a similar handmade bookmark inside might show that you are thinking of them at such a tough time.

I have added some links in the posts to the products which are available on the CVC website.

 This is how it came together;
I made a "frosty morning" background using distress mica stains and ink pads

I then stamped the birthday sentiment from the Visible Image lost for words  stamp set using versafine claire nocture ink and clear heat embossed.

I die cut my Tim Holtz flower field using black card to give it a wintry feel.

I also die cut a Tim Holtz crow from my stash from inky mop up card.

Then I put my card together adding some sequins and a glitter card border for a frosty effect.

Here is my finished card once more.

This is the first of my 2 DT makes for this month, a wintry background birthday card I made for my husband's January birthday.

I used Tim Holtz products for the background and colouring and Visible Image stamps. I will add some links to the products which are in stock on the website in this post.

Here is my tutorial of how my card came together.
I first sprayed a wintry mix of distress mica stains (currently out of stock but Susan can order in if you email her) with lost shadow distress oxide spray  onto black card.

I then die cut a Tim Holtz "moon" using his moonlight set.

I added some dimension using lost shadow and pumice stone distress inks and then flicking on some water.

I also die cut some wintry trees using an ancient die from my stash. Susan has a substitute wintry tree you could use here

I then stamped the Visible Image Night owl using Versafine Clair Nocturne and clear heat embossed. I fussy cut it out and coloured using distress pencils.

I stamped the birthday sentiment using the Visible Image Go to words set.

Then I put my wintry scene together sticking everything down with Cosmic shimmer glue

I added some Tim Holtz die cut gold stars as a finishing touch.

Here is my finished card once more.

with a final close up.

A happy Visible Image new year!

Good morning everyone and a very happy new year! Here we are in 2025...25 years since the millennium celebrations which I feel were about 10 years ago! However a whole quarter of a century has flown by.  I am here today to share my first design team make of the new year for Visible Image. The theme for our makes this week is "new year resolutions/positive affirmations". I thought that the "One kind word" stamp set would work perfectly. A new year is certainly a good time to "write the next chapter" and remind those we care about how much they are loved.

 This is my card

I made it using the following products;

One kind word

plus the mesh heart stencil

And this is how I made it;

 I used a background from my stash made using wilted violet, mermaid lagoon and salty ocean distress spray stains. I cut it to 5 1/4" square.

I stamped and clear heat embossed the typewriter twice onto white card. I used Versafine clair ink for all my stamping. I cut one out completely and just the paper on the 2nd.

I found the placement for the stencil by laying the typewrite in place.

I then removed the image and blended lumberjack plaid distress ink through the stencil.

Next I stamped the sentiment the letters flourish 3 times as shown below.

I stamped the words on the spare cut out typewriter paper. I glued it in place adding a foam square behind to give some dimension.

I then repeat stamped the small hearts in the set over the background and added my signature sequins as a finishing touch.

This could be a great card to send someone who might have had a tough year last year. It would let them know how much they are loved and that you are wishing a better 2025 for them.

All the Visible Image links are listed below;

Our kind, friendly and supportive customer Facebook Group is here ...it would be lovely to see you join us. You will be warmly welcomed and see lots of inspiration from the DT and customers to inspire your own creativity.  I also organize the monthly artist trading card swap in the group. It is open to everyone worldwide. Over 150 members, worldwide, have taken part since it started over 3 years ago. It's been such fun and it's so lovely to receive a unique piece of art from your partner in the post. The details and sign up for each swap are posted in the group on the 23rd of the month. So the next swap sign up will open on 23rd January.  There is no "monthly" commitment, just join in when you have the time and if you live in the UK can you choose to post to the UK only if that suits you best.
