Week 11 of the Funkie Junkie's 12 tags of Christmas 2014, Jane's Journal style.

Wow I'm nearly there with Linda's fab challenge. Just one more project to go.If you hurry you could still join in but you need to get your skates on. It closes on 21st December by which time you need to have submitted all 12 creations using Linda's tags for inspiration. You can make anything at all. The full rules are over on her blog here . Linda offers 3 very generous prizes of gift vouchers to spend in her terrific on line shop, The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Do have a look at the link here . I am choosing to make 12 Christmas cards instead of tags.

The tag Linda made for week #11 is here . It is a gorgeous burnished silver tag and initially I wanted to try this technique. I do have some Ranger foil and planned a burnished silver card. However things did not quite work out to plan and my card today is actually a happy accident! I was also inspired by the snowflakes with gems Linda used, so I wanted to include some on my card too.

So this is what happened. I first die cut some Cheery Lynn snowflakes twice and stuck them together and arranged 6 on a sheet of card.

I thought that they would be thick enough when I added the foil and tried to burnish them through.

However this didn't really work, even when I used a stylus. I think with hindsight they needed to be cut in chipboard but I am not sure the dies would cope with that sort of thickness.
Now my crafting time is extremely limited, especially at the moment, and I am never usually a girl who throws anything in the bin and starts again. I needed to rescue this and I had a think and decided that I would turn it into a focal for my card by adding some alcohol inks for some colour and texture. Out came my few bottles of alcohol ink and I had a play.

I kept added drops and also rubbed some areas with a scrunched up paper towel until I was happy.
I then cut a piece to make into a focal ( and I still have these 2 pieces below spare)
I then used a snowflake embossing folder on another piece of Ranger foil

and matted it onto some blue card for a backing piece.
 I put on my creative hat and put my elements together. Here is my finished card, you need to put on your sunglasses as it is so hard to photograph as it really shines.
I rather like my happy accident, as it made a really stunning inky focal and I still have all those lovely sparkly snowflakes but on the embossed foil background. My Hb nabbed this card for one of his work colleagues as he really liked it.
Here are a couple of close ups.

I  added a LOTV sentiment, some gems, a blue ribbon and a Cheery Lynn holly corner which I edged with blue.

I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;

  7. Fantastic, Jane! Don't you love those happy accidents? They seem to happen to me a lot! I love the blues you created here with the alcohol inks. I'm so glad you didn't toss that lovely metallic snowflake panel. And the silver embossed back panel is fantastic. Beautiful card, no wonder your DH snagged it! So happy you have kept up with the challenge all season. The end is in sight!

    Hugs,

  13. ingenious! lovely idea. can i suggest cutting 3 or 4 of same die and ticking them together instead of chipboard. this will still give you thickness. another thing is , you could have used kitchen foil which gives same effect but is thinner and so easier to mold around die cuts. just some suggestions. hope you don't mind xx

  14. Thanks Teresa....I did stick 3 die cuts together but the idea of using foil is certainly worth a try....any tips are always helpful to us crafters x
