Bister revisited

At the weekend we looked after Bear for my son, who competed in and finished a Tough Mudder event. I managed a few hours crafting time in my garden studio. Bear even sat down with me to watch for a while
He kept look out for me ;0)

I wanted to have another play with my Bister powders, these are pigments and I wrote a post here about them earlier this year.  I also decided to make a start on my Christmas cards and enter some great challenges running at the moment.

PaperArtsy's theme is pigment powders, including Bister. I really enjoyed the video over there featuring a French crafter and felt inspired to make a few backgrounds which I can keep and use over the coming weeks for my card bases. I added water on my card first with a brush for this one and then sprinkled on some bister. I then added some texture paste snowflakes through a stencil.

And for the one below I sprinkled bister first and then spritzed with water. Every piece is so unique, it's great fun playing with these powders.

I really liked this bright background so I added some sparkly stencilled starts

Once I had made a few backgrounds I took one and imagined a Christmas scene I could create.

I added some stenciled snowflakes using Ranger texture paste.
And below is what I came up with. The stamp is Lavinia and the Santa die cut is Cheery Lynn. I made the parcels out of snippets of card.

I would like to enter my card into the following challenges;

Paperartsy pigment powders
Cheery Lynn things with wings my fairies have wings
Pixie's snippets playground 194 I have used snippets of card to make my little parcels.
The craft barn stencils and masks I have used Tim's snowflake stencil
We love to create anything goes mixed media 19
Crafting from the heart anything goes
Artistic Inspirations anything goes/twist of magic
Penny Black and More Anything goes
Artistic Stamper Things with wings
Whimsy anything goes or Halloween
Rubber Dance Anniversary I used the Dec 2014 colour board.
Simon Says stamp Wednesday die crazy
Simon Says stamp Monday love this technique I love using texture paste through stencils.
ABC Christmas S is for silent

The rain yesterday was biblical and we finished off the day with a power cut. However all is calm this morning....power has been restored and the sun has returned.
The leaves in my little garden are shining and damp and enjoyed their watering.
My fuchsias are still hanging on and blooming
 and my studio beckons me.........
All is well in Jane's World.

Thanks for visiting today. We have the most exciting weekend coming up. Daisy Jane is coming to spend the whole weekend with us whilst her Mummy and Daddy go to wedding. Oh my....sooo exciting...and on my list of fun things to do with Daisy is a conker hunt......

Back soon,

Bye for now,

Jane x

  1. Wow Jane - my guess is that the Bister powders are similar to Brushos? Wonderful backgrounds and the finished card you brought to the Playground is fabulous! I do love all the inspiration we get in the Playground.

Have a wonderful time with Daisy Jane - conker hunting, that takes me back in time! I can almsot smell the damp fallen leaves - won't be too long until the trees are bare I suppose. Like you, we had torrential rain here - at one point it was rushing down the road like a river in full flow. And, today we have sunshine!

    Hugs

    1. A conker hunt is one in which children look for horse chestnuts (buckeyes) which are not edible.

  11. Morning, Jane! Love those pretty pigment powder backgrounds - especially the third aqua tone one, looks almost like some sort of mineral rock!
Thankfully we missed the rain yesterday, although Carol's weather map was a patchwork of yellow and green down south! The garden always looks so much more vibrant and fresh after a good soaking and all the plants seem to stand back to attention, even though we are knocking on Autumn's door! The forecast is fine for this weekend, so enjoy your Daisy time and conker hunting - have a wonderful time! Hugs, Lisa x

  15. nice guard dog and glad you had a chance to use your little cottage out back. That would be nice. I had a plan for my son's bedroom once my daughter left. But when she came back, it's mostly her's now and her bedroom. Oh well, such is life! Have a good weekend!
