Game, set and Match

My day at Wimbledon on Monday was fabulous and as promised I am back today to share some photos of this most iconic tennis venue. We have been lucky enough to get tickets for Wimbledon several times over the years. I love watching Wimbledon fortnight on the TV but there is nothing like being there in person, the atmosphere is so unique. We are lucky to live only 6 miles from Wimbledon and often go for lunch in Wimbledon Village. During the tennis season however there is no parking available, unless you pay a fortune, so we are able to take our local train.

We arrived at 10.30am when the doors opened as it is fun to wander about the grounds before the tennis starts on the show courts at 1pm.

We also decided to start the morning with a freshly made cappuccino...I am not a coffee drinker but I do occasionally enjoy a cappuccino...especially when the cup has this logo on!

How cool is that cup.

After our caffeine boost we started our circuit of the grounds. What you cannot appreciate just by watching the coverage on the television is how well tended for and pretty the grounds of  the tennis club are and how all the plants are the colours of the championships...purple, green and yellow/cream.

Everywhere is so well tended. We were also blessed with a gorgeous warm sunny day, which is sometimes not the case, as rain can  stop play. Our tickets were for Court Number 1 which unlike Centre Court, does not have a roof. The sun shone from start to finish and there was a gentle breeze to keep everyone pleasantly cool.
We walked past Henman Hill/ Murray Mount...or whatever it is currently being named and saw everyone who just had ground admission tickets  finding a space to watch the matches on the Big Screen. We also had our picnic here in the sunshine.

Some people had made their way to find seats on the outside courts where there is no reserved seating and you can just come and go as you please. There is always a match underway somewhere.

At 12.45pm we took our seats in Court Number One. We had seats up under the canopy which we appreciated as it gave us some protection from the sunshine. We were able to see no less than 3 matches. The first was our own Laura Robson who was sadly beaten but played really well. She is only 19 and I think has great promise for the future.
We also saw 2 men's singles matches; Seppi vs Del Portro and Tomic vs Berdych. Here are some action shots I took from my seat.

And as the evening wore on the court was still bathed in sunshine

My card today was completely inspired by the purple, green and yellow/cream colours of Wimbledon and I used a Lavinia Stamps fairy stamp.

Here is this gorgeous fairy in close up. I have my stamped image with Promakers and added Glossy accent to the moon and the cloud for some dimension. I have used the Precious stars Memory box die and cut it using glittered card. The sentiment is one of my Pretty Vintage wins from Lili of the Valley from their Pretty Grungy sets. I inked this up with 3 different colour Marvy markers and was really please how it came out. The cloud and the card behind her are from my recent accordian card project. Nothing is ever wasted as a crafter ;0) These are not my usual colours but I really liked them in my finished card.

I would like to enter my cards into the following challenges;

Lavinia Stamps Challenge Use a punch or die shape The die I have used is the fab Memory Box precious stars die and I used glittered green card to cut them with.
Papertake Weekly anything goes
Joanna Sheen Don't be square my card is a rectangle ;0)
Totally Gorjuss wings
Rhedd and Rosie Here comes summer
The Paper Shelter Photo inspiration
As you like it Favourite 3 embellies My fav 3 are; glitter as I just love to add some bling to my cards, Glossy Accents as it gives such an amazing dimension to things and dries completely clear and my star shaped gems as they are just a little bit different to using just the usual round ones ;0)
Inky Chicks anything goes
Visible Image Inspired by a song my song Dreams by Fleetwood Mac

And of course I was treated to another Links of London charm by my Hb at Wimbledon.

It's an enamelled silver tennis ball in the Wimbledon colours and it looks perfect with my others....

It was also a special day for us as it was the anniversary of when we first started going out with one another...on 1st July 1979...gosh such a long time ago now and I was still at school...;0)

It looks as though the finals this weekend at Wimbledon will be held on the hottest days of the year....it may reach 30c on Sunday.....I will be watching and of course that means it will also be Pimm's O'clock for me.

Cheers!

Good luck Andy Murray, we could even have a British Wimbledon champion, fingers crossed.

Back soon,

Bye for now,

Jane x

  18. Oops, I deleted my comment, so let me post again--it was exciting to see that Andy Murray DID win at Wimbleton, and had a congratulatory meeting with the prime minister today . It's so much fun when the home team wins!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today and "visiting" my garden---it's raining tonight so all the plants are happy!
