I needed to make an Easter card for my Hb and as I'm not sure he would appreciate one with butterflies on I decided to chose something else for the focal. I chose my Tim bird branch die...one of my faves and started with the corrugated card treatment.
Your can see all the details of the making process over at Tim's blog here but I will share my own tweaks as I always like to go off on a bit of a tangent....it's always fun.
So I prepared my corrugated card (I love using this and I use it lots in my crafting)
I cut out my bird branch and added some spring colours to make it appear to be a piece of damp bark
I die cut some card using my mixed media dies and stuck it only some card which I had stamped with my VI script stamp.
I then decided that as there is not a lot of open space on this die that I would use the bright backing more as a shadow to the original die cut. So rather than get rid of the die cut I used it. I rubbed some Gellatos onto the bird and branch and inked the edges for shadow and depth.
To make my card more Eastery (not sure if that is a word, I'll call it a Janeism) I also die cut some of Tim new wildflowers and water coloured them with distress inks in spring colours. I also cut myself a little tag from corrugated card.
So I bet you are wondering where I am going with this.......well here is my finished card.
I would like to link up my card into the following great challenges;

Hi Jane! LOVE this piece of mixed media - is really is a taste of Spring isn't it!
ReplyDeleteI hope I did the Lavinia thing alright, I posted it on my FB and asked people to like or share. I can see that almost 30 people liked it and one shared - what worries me is that maybe they should have gone to the FB page itself - or will their likes count anyhow?
Hugs

Jane, this is awesome sauce and so Eastery. Hehe! Love the offset of the die used over the die cut and your Gelatos background add some scrumptious colors. What a way to think outside the box! I am positive your DH will love this! Gorgeous details as well.

Jane, it's always a breath of fresh air visiting your blog, and this is just a lovely Easter card, with a creative twist on Tim's March tag...(Still haven't a clue what I will do. I can't remember what Distress crayons I ordered and I haven't unpacked them yet.) I love that bold pop of color as the shadow. Fabulous improvising!
