Advent Calendar Nostalgia and a Snowman card

Well here we are in December, yipee......I no longer feel so gulity about showing all my Christmas crafting creations. I must admit it was strange making my first Christmas card in October whilst we were in the middle of one of the hottest October and November's on record. Mind you for anyone living in New Zealand and Australia that is the normal. No for me Christmas has to involve darkness, cold, frost and if we are lucky a light dusting of snow which arrives on  a Friday  night and vanishes before the rush hour on a Monday morning ;0)

Today I have a made a new card which I will enter in a few Card Challenges. It's a different style for me, and features a snowman. There are not my usual embellishments and flowers as this is the card I made for my son. I gave it to him last night and it is looking out at us now from his bedroom shelf. Here it is

He is a very cheerful Snowman standing in some glistening snow

I stamped Mr Snowman onto a round die cut and then coloured him with my trusty Promarkers. I added a clear accent glaze to the hat, bow and baubles to make them shine.

Here he is in close up. I also added some glitter for extra sparkle and some punch cut snowflakes.

I also added a sweet Father Christmas Tibetan charm from my jewellery stash and completed my card with a foil die cut star and some lovely rich green organza ribbon. I used a round LOTV sentiment to send my son our Christmas wishes (and yes he's 23 and still loves all things Christmas).

I have entered my snowman card into the follwing challenges.

The brand new Joanna Sheen Challenge, Number 1; Christmas Wishes
Scrapbook sisters; Anything goes
Paper crafting Journey ; Anything Goes
Totally Papercraft ; Let it Snow
Crafty Annie Challenge Spot; Christmas Bingo. I have chosen the line Glitter/Snow/Red

Thanks for looking at my card.

I would also like to mention the wonderful candy being offered on the Ribbon Girl blog, I would love to get my hands on that lovely stash!

Now 1st December always means time to hang the Advent Calendars in our house. Mine this year is another that I was lucky enough to buy in Nurenburg at the Christmas Market in 2009
Here it is;
This type of Advent Calander takes me right back to my young childhood in the 1960s and I can still remember looking up at the wall and seeing the glitter glistening. I am thrilled they still sell these in Germany.

I just love these sweet images

Here's what greeted me this morning behind window number 2

How cute is that! I had a little winter scene behind number 1 window.

I wonder what I will find behind number 3??

We had some much needed rain last night but today has been sunny again. As the light is fading though the temperature is really taking a dip (finally). We plan to get our tree tomorrow so I will be back early next week with my 2011 Christmas tree post! Milly is coming up on Sunday and we plan to make mince pies. She has already got her tree up...she must have inherited some of her Mum's Christmas Spirit I think!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Hope your festive preparations are coming along well? Just a gentle reminder to you; tomorrow there are only 22 days until the big day :0) And just to remind you who is coming here is a photo of my latest bead purchase which I made up into a simple sweet pendant for a chain.
Ho Ho Ho!!!!

Bye for now,

Jane x

The card is spectacular as always, and as the snowmen are my favorites, this is especially lovely :) I was supposed to show some of my starting-December-things in my blog today (cards, candles, decorations...) but sadly my cameras usb cord is broken and my pictures stay in camera today (I am shopping for a new cord tomorrow) and this post was just perfect to make up for that! thank you for sharing, dear friend!

    Wonderful weekend!

    Yours,
    Mia

  6. Your son is so lucky to receive one of your brilliant cards! I'm sure he'll keep it forever. You should frame it after the holidays and give it to keep and hang in his home during the holidays the rest of his life. :-)

When I saw your glass Santa I got the *wanties*!! Love him!!

    Lovely card AND Advent calendar.

What a lucky son to have such a creative mother!

The calendar reminds me of some I had when I was little. Going to a German/Austrian/Hungarian Christmas market is something I've always wanted to do. A big thanks for sharing your calendar and card!!
